From NDLA President

Hello NDLA members,

The following statement is from the Vancouver Island Minor Lacrosse Commission Chair, Tim Frost

“In our meeting last night, we discussed the BCLA’s approach to return to sport for 2020 and the restrictions that will be in place for sanctioned sport activities in BC.   We concluded as a commission – that there will be no scheduled league play in 2020.  We have agreed to dramatically reduce our operating costs for 2020 in order to refund all Association fees paid to the commission.  We have encouraged all associations to maintain their list of registered players while considerations are made for player refunds according to association policies. The BCLA will come out with guidelines for modified return to sport (following government and PHO guidelines) and the commission is committed to coordinate these sessions and has the intent to offer these to all registered players with no additional fees.  At this time – we have not received guidelines from the BCLA so cannot begin to plan any details on these events until we understand the constraints and regulations we must follow.” Tim Frost VIMLC Chair

Due to the above information, NDLA has cancelled the box lacrosse season for minor players in Nanaimo. The City of Nanaimo also has closed the facilities until June 30, 2020 with that date to be reviewed and possibly extended depending on the recommendations of the Provincial Health Officer.

We appreciate your patience during this difficult time while we awaited more information from BCLA and the VIMLC. When and if the VIMLC can offer some events, all players that are currently registered with NDLA for 2020 (as of May 21,2020) will be able to attend. Currently there are to be no NDLA sanctioned practices or lacrosse activities.

The NDLA will process refunds as quickly as possible and all of the board volunteers thank you for your patience while we work through this process.
